One of the renowned cities of Maharashtra, Nasik (or Nashik) is the administrative headquarters of Nasik District and Division. The city is located on the foothills of Western Ghats along the banks of River Godavari, and lies about 565 metres above sea level. It is also one of the holy places in India as its history trails back to Hindu mythology. The city also organises the holy Kumbh Mela. Nasik has a historical, mythological, social and cultural importance of its own. From a mythological city, Nasik has now evolved into a modern-day city. The city has witnessed steady growth in its real estate market owing to comparatively affordable prices and steady development.

Infrastructure
Several infrastructure projects have come up in Nasik over the past few years including Mumbai-Nasik Expressway, which promises to boost connectivity to and from the city. L&T is also undertaking the Pimpalgaon-Nasik-Gonde project. Shahi Marg has also been built for pilgrims to reach the banks of River Godavari. This stretches from Tapovan through Nag Chowk and Sardar Chowk. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is developing five major industrial zones in the city Ambad, Gonde, Satpur, Sinnar and Igatpuri. These zones house many renowned manufacturing units such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Glaxo, CEAT and many more. Pune-Nasik Highway from Bhosari to Khed is proposed to be widened to 60 km. Nasik also has a state-of-the-art solid waste management system and the government is also planning measures to convert this into compost at a separate facility near the city. Rainwater harvesting systems are mandatory for all new constructions in the city.

Pathardi is one of the most popular residential destinations in Nasik and offers great returns on property investments. Demand is immense here along with the five industrial areas developed by MIDC. Areas including Panchawati and Raviwar Peth are also highly in demand along with newer areas including Adgaon, Deolali Camp and Nasik Road. The city has a population of more than six million, as per the census 2011. The decadal population growth between 2001 and 2011 was 22.30 percent. The sex ratio of the city was 393 women per 1000 men.

Nasik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is responsible for all civic and infrastructural developments in the city. The body takes care of services including health, public works, water supple and sewerage, disaster management. The Nasik Court is housed in the city and there are a total of 73 courts here. The istrict administration is headed by the district magistrate & collector.

Industry and Employment
Nasik is known as an educational hub as several reputed institutions including Maharashtra University of Health Science (MUHS), K K Wagh Institution of Engineering Education & Research are located here. Grapes, onions and tomatoes are major agricultural produce in Nasik along with wine. The city is called the Wine Capital of India and is home to several leading brands including Sula, Zampa and Nine Hills. Economy of the city is driven by engineering and manufacturing industry. Some renowned manufacturing units in the city include VIP, M and Mahindra, and CEAT among others. Agriculture is a major industry in Nasik along with construction and infrastructure. The city is home to the aircraft manufacturing plant of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited along with India Security Press and Currency Note Press. Some other companies that have their presence in the city include ABB India, Gabriel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Glaxo SmithKline, Siemens, Atlas, CEAT, Garware and TI Cycles.

Kumbh Mela, the holy festival that witnesses huge gathering of pilgrims and sadhus from across the globe to take a holy bath in River Godavari, is held in Nasik. The Mahakumbh takes place every twelve years while the Ardh Kumbh takes place every six years. The city is home to numerous temples and other tourist attractions. Also known as the Wine Capital of India, the city is known for a thriving hospitality and recreational circuit generated out of this industry itself. There are several public festivals organised in Nasik like the SulaFest. Gargoti Museum and Coin Museum are huge attractions in Nasik. The city is home to several majestic forts, too. Barbeque Ville, Soleil at Sula, Veg Aroma and Cafe Bliss are some of the popular restaurants in the city where one can relish different cuisines.
