: an overviewOne of the renowned cities of Maharashtra, Nasik (or Nashik) is the administrative headquarters of Nasik District and Division. The city is located on the foothills of Western Ghats along the banks of River Godavari, and lies about 565 metres above sea level. It is also one of the holy places in India as its history trails back to Hindu mythology. The city also organises the holy Kumbh Mela. Nasik has a historical, mythological, social and cultural importance of its own. From a mythological city, Nasik has now evolved into a modern-day city. The city has witnessed steady growth in its real estate market owing to comparatively affordable prices and steady development.
Infrastructure
Several infrastructure projects have come up in Nasik over the past few years including Mumbai-Nasik Expressway, which promises to boost connectivity to and from the city. L&T is also undertaking the Pimpalgaon-Nasik-Gonde project. Shahi Marg has also been built for pilgrims to reach the banks of River Godavari. This stretches from Tapovan through Nag Chowk and Sardar Chowk. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is developing five major industrial zones in the city Ambad, Gonde, Satpur, Sinnar and Igatpuri. These zones house many renowned manufacturing units such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Glaxo, CEAT and many more. Pune-Nasik Highway from Bhosari to Khed is proposed to be widened to 60 km. Nasik also has a state-of-the-art solid waste management system and the government is also planning measures to convert this into compost at a separate facility near the city. Rainwater harvesting systems are mandatory for all new constructions in the city.
